Bo

Bo got his first big boy lesson with the saddle today. He did well. We had a couple of respect issues at first, things like I want to do this and go this way instead of what I asked but within half an hour those were gone. He didn't like me touching his legs and just about laid down, which hey if you wanna lay down so much the better. He never did but I figured out how to teach him to bow. That was an added bonus. Anyway the leg issues are also a thing of the past as well now. Surprisingly enough he stood there to be saddled. He has never had one on before so wow! He stands to be completely brushed now as well. He is huge for a yearling. The saddle fits him at 13 months old. No he is not being ridden and this is a light weight training saddle that I use to start them out. Pistol will be next. The lesson went very well, ended on a very good note and he is a quick learner. Pistol tried to have some fun with him during training but he is a smart boy as well and all I had to do was tell him to go on and he would go away. He knows better, just being a pill.
Bo learned to stand quietly and during this time Pistol came and took the lead rope and was going to lead Bo off. Smart ass little turd.
I have to admit I do love raising two stud colts. You have gotten to see how they react to things and you know who they are and what they will do.
I honestly never expected that I would have 2 studs at one time. It wasn't the plan. Bo is Wes' stud and Pistol is mine. Bo gives more respect to Wes than me so that's why I worked with him today. Wes has worked with him before. I think we have it all worked out now.

Sadie Mae

Well a year and a half as go we bought our place. Along with the place came a dog. She is a walker coon hound, something I'd never had before and knew little about. Sadie would see people and go running into the middle of the pasture and just watch until you left. Most times just laying down and hiding. It was obvious she was feral or at the very least half feral.
It was November when we moved. Sadie having no winter coat because she is a short haired dog made me worry even though the previous owner said she stays out year around. Well anyone that knows me knows good and we'll this is not acceptable.  So with a little sneakiness, we e managed to get her in the house. She hid in Anjeleena 's closet for days.
After much work on Anje's part Sadie started to adapt.
Flash forward,  here is Sadie now. No longer runs to the field, greets us when we get home, now comes in and out of the house on her own and is a completely different dog. She still has a bit of a trust issue but she will approach people now instead of running off. This has been a year and a half in the making and she has been a great dog. She gets better every day.
We are glad that Sadie came with the house.

So funny

Ok so Savannah knows Affair from being at Jennifers. That is who I got Affair from. So now that Savannah is home and had an attitude change, she follows Affair around like a puppy dog. Affair gets irritated with her but does nothing more than pin ears and swing her head at Savannah. Lol. Savannah follows her like this ALL DAY LONG.  It's very nice to see that Savannah has been taken down a notch or 5. She was way to big for her britches and now she is back to her sweet self. She even came up to me in the pasture today. I just love on Affair first and BAM she is there. Not pushy just wants love to.

If it ever stops raining and drys up some I will go back to riding her and ride Affair to.

From what I hear this summer may be like this the whole time. It's not suppose to get hot. I would like some dry so I can get some horses ridden now that I have a small arena up. Ugh!

Some of the gang

Here is part of the gang out in the pasture today.
It's cloudy and gloomy. Rain is approaching and well I need a nap.

Savannah as you can see is now accepted.

The 2 thoroughbreds hang together

All Turned Out

Everyone is now officially turned out together with the exception of the 2 studs. They have their own turnout. So far things are good. Trick has been settling things with Savannah, doesn't want her in the herd but I think they have worked it all out now because she is with them. Cat and McKenna are turned out to but McKenna has returned up by the barn to hang with Gma Josie. I guess she got tired of trying to keep up with momma Cat.
Cat wiped out while running in the pasture. Her butt slid right out from under her. She is fine. She got up and kept going. Pretty sure it's all calm and settled now. Just hope it stays that way. Everyone has access to the barn.

Diamond rolling in the water

Trick rolling in the water. He splashed and splashed and acted like a kid. For a horse that wasn't suppose to like water he sure played in it a lot. He and Affair had a ball.
They think this is cool.
Kai all grown up and healthy and happy
Lake front property for a day or two.
The temporary lake made for some beautiful pictures
The turn off to our road is somewhere under all that water. No way in and no way out. Picture courtesy of a neighbor that captured this awesome shot from the top of Geo hill.
They don't seem to mind
Diamond went in the water every time I did.
My beautiful Affair.
Raging water through crop field and rolling over our fence. When waters dropped we had fence laid down.
Monkey see monkey do. Trick and Belle. I knew that they were attached to each other but my goodness. And of course fat Lacy.
Pasha and Trick
Kai and Bella. They sure have grown and are the best of friends
Rebel, silly boy
It really is nice to have a bunch of water babies.

Savannah

Well this morning I turned Savannah out to pasture with the herd. Time to settle things with her brother. Well much to my surprise she walked right out passed him and he did nothing. Apparently he got his point across last Sunday. So all is quiet out there, she has been allowed to join the herd again. YAY. This is a very good thing.
She trimmed down some so she could safely go back out. Her attitude is gone, she is back on my "she is a keeper list" and will probably breed her in the spring of next year.

Maggie

A year ago this month Maggie came bounding across the yard at me as I was working in the garden. Apparently a dump dog. Well whoever decided she wasn't worthy of keeping just didn't take the time with her. In the beginning I had no intention of keeping her. She bounced off the walls, had no manners and was off the charts with energy. Wes started working with her, then I started as well. A year later she has had puppies, all found forever homes, she got spayed and has calmed down so much. She is gun shy which is not a good quality in a hunting dog so I figure that is why she got dumped. That's ok though because she is a great dog, by my side constantly and protective of her family. I'm glad she came along and fits perfectly into our little family.

Maggie played like a kid in the flood waters last weekend. It was very funny.

She had a blast and so did the other 2 big dogs.
Bouncing through the water like a deer.
Tuckered out from a long day of water play.

Pasha

No we do not have a private lake, or we'll not anymore. That was Sunday, flood waters, half our pasture. It sure made a beautiful back drop for some amazing picture taking that day.
This is Pasha, one of our off the track thoroubreds that is broke to ride and my trail horse and competition horse Trick.
Trick accepted Pasha not to long after she got here and she hangs with him a lot. It didn't take her long to get established in with the herd.
She is a really sweet mare and rides nice.
We got a lot of awesome pictures of the horses by the water and playing in it.

Omg so sick of rain and mud

Soooo sick of the rain and the mud. Ugh!
Looks like a potato soup night for dinner. It's just damp cold. Need sunshine.

Ok so one of my apps popped up a memoir from a year ago today. It was Kai. Wow has he grown. He and Trick are good friends and they were playing this morning.  It was pretty cute. He is a sweetheart and is a fat pig.

Savannah is back to her Old self. Yay!

Trick is still bossy but not like he use to be. He is mellowing.

Lacy is Lacy. Doing fine and is so fat.

Bella is growing into a beautiful mare like her momma Lacy.

Diamond is gorgeous.  She is big and built nice.

Josie is doing very well.

Cat and her little buddy filly are doing great. Cat is continuing to come around.

Pasha has acted like she has been here forever and thriving. As a matter of fact she has taken up with Trick.

Rebel and Diamond are buddies.

Pistol and Bo are sweet studs. They continue to live together and probably always will. They are inseparable.  I like raising stallions from foals much better.

Belle is as big as a house. Awaiting the arrival of a foal.

Affair, well she is just amazing and settled in here and in with the herd immediately.  She continues to do very well.

So it's nap time I think. Happy rainy day people.

Lawson

Went to Lawson to pick up horse feed since it's suppose to start raining again so chances are more flooding and I don't want to get caught without feed. I saw where the tornado touched down. Trees uprooted, buildings torn up and a lot of clean up going on. Thank goodness I could get to MFA because it was on the road that turns into MFA. I just wish it would warm up and dry up and be sunny for a while.

Holy Crap!!

Ok so Sunday May 17, 2015 we started flooding. Honestly not a big deal. Happened last year and with the pickups could still drive through it on the road. Not to mention only one small corner of the pasture would flood which amounted to being the size of a small pond.

WELL.............

not so much the case this year. You could actually see the water rising in the pasture and on the road. Within 15 minutes there was no way out and no way in. Road closed and several acres of the pasture was under water. Over a third of the big pasture. WOW! Water was rushing through crop fields and I mean huge crop fields that by evening were nothing more than big huge lakes. We could have launched our boat in our pasture alone. We couldn't walk to the fence because the current was to strong and water to deep. We got pictures and video of it all. I will post a ton of them in my next entry with captions of what and where it all was. It laid our fence down in multiple spots adding up to about 200 or so feet. The water was down enough this morning for us to get the tractor out there and put fence back up. We put everything on the carryall and headed out for 5 hours work. We had to clear debris off the fence. We used the tractor to push the fence back up. We started a worm farm because we were catching worms bigger than any night crawlers you could ever buy. They looked like small snakes and we're equally as hard to hang on to. It was fun. Found a HUGE snapping turtle in the flood waters while out working. Water was still knee deep. We removed him from the pasture and put him on the other side of the fence in the flood waters so he could continue his adventures.  He wasn't happy about the whole carrying him by the tail thing but I wasn't going to get bit. They really stink and he was very heavy. We saw carp swimming down the side of the gravel road in the ditch where the flood waters,we're still flowing.
Yesterday the horses were playing in our lake. Trick got out there splashing and rolling in the water, Diamond was splashing and rolling in the water, Affair was splashing but didn't roll. Kai went out and played in the water with Bella. They all walked through it but not all played in it. Pasha didn't and that surprised me because she loves water. Savannah ran through it because her brother was chasing her. He is not happy with his sister at all. He won't let her in the herd yet. Lol. He puts all the new ones through initiation before letting them join. Some worse than others. At least he had her running some fat off. She is currently living in peace with Cat, Josie, and the filly. She will make her way to the herd before long.
We put up a small arena today. Wes came. Up with it. It is the boys turnout, extended all the way to include the round pen. I can still put the boys up to work other horses and when I'm done then let them back out to run around. It's going to work out very well. Multi purpose.
I mean with not being able to leave today we had plenty of time to get it all done. I love having so many round pen panels to do this with.
The pasture horses all came to be loved on while we were out there today. There is something about being in the middle of 9 horses that are surrounding you yet they done hurt you. Nine horses could do a lot of damage. Everyone got loved on. Then they we enter on to graze and we went back to work.
It was nice to have lake front property for an evening though. The dogs loved playing in it and I played with the horses in it. Diamond would follow me into the water without fail. If I went in she came in with me. She is a good girl. We had a lot of fun yesterday, took tons of pictures, and enjoyed it. Today was the cleanup after the fun. Oh well. It was still fun.
Our neighbors brand new high tensile fence was destroyed.  Huge corner posts out of the ground and mangled. Water got up to their house.

What a Night

Wes got called out about 4 this morning to go put up road blocks on D hwy east of Lawson and sit there and babysit. Look close there is a car in that water and the tv 5 news van that citizens told him was there has floated away. No one was in vehicles. It continues to rise. He said even the old timers have never seen it so high. So far our road is not covered, however, I fully expect that to change later today.
There was a tornado in our area last night between 11:30 and midnight. It got some places but followed right outside of our valley. All is safe here. We did move to the basement for about 20 minutes. Horses are all fine. It is a sloppy nasty soupy muddy mess everywhere. Everyone took cover.
Wes is still at work and today is to be a homebody day catching up on laundry and picking up.
We went to a semi pro football game that Wes' son plays for and then went to dinner last night. A good time we had. Made it home just before storms hit and got horses fed.

I'm on a prednisone pack now. Chemical burns totally suck!! I've even had a steroid shot but didn't last. Jeez those shots HURT!!

Beautiful Pasha

Standing there all wet and happy is my beautiful Pasha.  Sure do love this thoroughbred.  She is a really sweet girl and boy is she tall. She loves the water, plays in it and will come up to be squirted with the hose. My horses are so much fun.

Rain and Mud and Horses

Ick ick ick. Need some dry and a little less mud. Oh well.

It appears Sav is back to her normal self. The horse I posted the other day (see below) was actually Savannah. She found a REALLY muddy spot and came out looking like that. We had run into town and when we came back this is what we saw. It was the same on her other side to.
I eventually got most washed off creating more mud in the process. After she dried I brushed and curried the rest of it off her. She loves grooming time.
Yesterday I went and put swat on all the horses udders and sheaths. Flies are biting them there. The horses loved it. Stretched necks, curled lips, lifted legs and generally had no problem with my doing this. I was a little surprised. But they are all good horses.
Love them all so much. I can't wait for my first foal out of Blk Ty Formal Affair.  Sis having such a beautiful colt gave me baby fever.

Beautiful Boy

He is such a pretty boy.
