She did play a small game of catch me if you can this morning but I did some approach and retreat with her. She is doing great. She was so excited to see me this morning she reared straight up, till I told her to get down. She got down and never tried it again. Rearing is a no no. She has picked up on a lot in a week. I'm really proud of her. I'm really enjoying having a thoroughbred.

No jumpiness
Fed this morning and put blankets back on Jojo and Cat. Cat usually jumps when you start to blanket her. This morning no jumpiness. I have figured out that if you have the lead on her she will stand still. If she is just standing there without it she is going to move off. Soon she will be able to stand and be messed with without her lead on her. She is pretty soecial and I mean that in a good way.

I worked a lot with Cat today. I have to say I am beaming proud of the things she did today.
First of all she learned to lunge and did great. Left was no problem, and you have to think that racehorses are the equine nascar, left turn left turn left turn. Right was a bit tougher but when she realized what I wanted she did superb! Couldn't ask for better. I verbally asked her to walk and she did. I asked her to trot and she did, then I said walk and she did. Lots of praise and loves and pets after each accomplished task. We did grooming today and picking up of feet which I didn't figure would be an issue since she has been shod for racing.
Having done so well I decided to pull out the saddle blanket and saddle today. Surprisingly enough she was pretty ok with it. She was a bit apprehensive about the two items at first but worked through it in a minute or less. I saddled her up, and she stood there. Ok not really surprised again because she has been ridden. But western gear is so not like the mini pad the jockeys call a saddle.
I walked her around with it on. No big deal. I lunged her both directions, piece of cake. I took her off lead and she walked around a bit but then she reared and bucked a little. I said cat whoa, and she stopped and stood there. I put her back on lead line and we continued with lunging at a walk and at a trot and back down to a walk.
I have to admit if I had to choose a certain amount of horses to keep she would be my number one pick, after Josey that is. She is doing far better than I expected.
Still have a couple hundred more pounds to gain. She will get there.

It's Official
I have over eaten big time. Ugh!
It was delicious. Now I'm tired.
We were busy cooking all morning and putting finishing touches on on the house. I cleaned and Wes started cooking then I cooked some stuff. We have fun cooking together.
Amanda and I did FaceTime. It was nice to see her. Anje got on to. I miss her sooo much.
Kerry and Simon and Rylei came over. The guys are upstairs playing video games and Ry and I are watching tv.
Brutus ate turkey, he threw it all up. Not a good sign. I really am starting to think he has the disease. Time will tell. He isn't in pain though.

Thanksgiving Eve
Well there is a lot to get done today. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving so Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
We are cooking enough for an army so we will have tons of left overs I am sure. I love the holidays.
My Christmas present is doing great. Yesterday I put Cat out and she had a good time being out, however, I think she prefers being next to the baby boys. She was all kinds of wound up when I went to put her in the barn at feeding time. Wes was going.........WOW! LOL I told him typical Thoroughbred and she will get over it. It is going to take some time. She is a really good girl. Or rather she really tries to be. Its kind of hard when you have been trained to know one thing and one thing only. Its really kind of sad.
It snowed a bit last night, everyone seemed to be ok with it this morning. They were all hanging up by the barn, no one was really wet or cold. Its suppose to warm up so I have not put on their blankets since the last warm up. So far they are all doing fine. I think we will leave blankets off till it gets really cold. Cat and Josey however are a different story. Cat is still needing weight and because of the rain rot she has no winter hair at all really and well Josey is just the same as always, she has to have her blanket during the winter.
The boys are doing great and growing like weeds. They love being in the big barn next to Cat. I am glad that they like to keep her company. She had calmed way down after I put her in her stall last night and the boys came back in to see her. This morning she was doing great. She was nice and calm and standing at her feeder waiting for her feed. I got to love all over her this morning. I really enjoy being around her even when she is keyed up. Such a sweet girl.
Bo is being a good boy now. He still had his moments but they aren't what they were. He is a sweetie and then there is Pistol who is always up my ass. LOL
Everyone else is doing great.
Well gotta run.....................tonight we start cooking. OH BOY!

Ok I am pissed!!
Our police officers can't even do their jobs without people screaming brutality, or pulling the fucking race card. You dumb motherfuckers are tearing up your own town, your own neighborhood your business that you go shopping at! What the fuck is wrong with you. If you had jobs maybe you wouldn't be out doing this. No one owes you a damn thing. The thug kid whether he was black white green or fucking purple got what he had coming to him. As for the parents, go sit your fucking asses down and shut the hell up! Your boy was a worthless criminal. You know it as well sad everyone else. You yourselves have been fighting amongst each other! You capitalized on the death of your son by selling tshirts. Then you fought over the money. And you have the nerve to blame others? You are the stupidest people I have ever seen. Your son died for what he did. No one forced him it was his decision and his alone. He wasn't mentally incapable of knowing right from wrong.
Shut up and you minions out there starting shit go the fuck home. The officer did his job. Look up the word JOB since I'm sure you have no clue what it means!!!!
End of rant.......not really but to say all that I really feel might get me in big trouble.
Working in Conjunction
Well I have found some fabulous resources regarding the retraining of Cat. There is a guide and I have been in contact with the person who has a rehab for race horses in California. I look forward to her input. I want Cat to progress in a manner where she is a well adjusted TB with a new job ahead of her. I want her to be everything that she can be.
It appears that retraining isn't going to be as hard as I had originally thought. It just takes some reprograming of sorts. The guide is well written and having been raised around TB race horses it is all very familiar. I have just never tackled retraining one up until now. I look forward to it. I now know where to start, what steps to take and where to go. Turns out I have started out correctly and so I am ahead of the game so to speak.
This weekend is suppose to be super nice and I am going to spend most of it with Cat working with her. We are still working on gates and going in and out of them. We are getting it down. TB's are very sensitive and praise goes a long way for them. I was worried about the saddling, bridle and reining aspect but it is explained clearly in this guide and I will have it be my bible for a while at least. May need to make another copy in case I wear this one out. They are different to train or retrain than QH's and I want to do what is right for Cat. I look forward to the day we graduate to riding. I have seen so many beautiful TB's be retrained and I love the way they move and carry themselves. I am not sure what direction we will take but she is only 4 years old so we have time to explore our options. I, however, will not attempt English again. I just don't like it and I don't like the breaches either. Maybe some western dressage. I think she would be beautiful doing that.

Snug as a Bug
Went to do morning feeding and the boys have taken it upon themselves to make the big barn their home. Guess we will have to rebuild the little barn. I guess I will also move their feeder in the big barn as well. I made it where everyone can go into the big barn and they were all snug as a bug this morning. Bo was laying down sleeping, Pistol was standing next to him and Cat was in her stall snug in her blanket awaiting her breakfast. The boys breakfast is in their little barn and they know that. So they go over there to eat. Cat was doing fine this morning and has oh so much company. The barn isn't huge but it is big enough for them all to get in and keep warm standing close to one another. Its working out well.
I think I will go get a square bale per horse this week and give everyone their own square bale of hay for Thanksgiving. They ought to like that. I wish this wind would quit blowing. Jeesh its cold. I was out feeding last night and felt the cold front move in while I was feeding. So I got out Josey's blanket and Cat's and after putting feed in their feeders they got their blankets back on. They sure did enjoy the weekend with them off though. Saturday was so nice and warm and Sunday wasn't bad either. The horses were running and bucking and playing. Trick was rearing up on Rebels butt playing with him. I remember a time where Trick hated Rebel. Now they are best buds. Its nice to see.
Cat is a big girl. She is just shy of 16 hands. I loaded her in my trailer to bring her home Saturday and she is just about to tall for the trailer but she did well. I love how she loads up. Just walks right in with no hesitation. Backing out is a little quick but we will work on that. I can't wait till summer. I think she will be fabulous.
Well got lots to do for the holiday this week so gotta run. Stay warm!

Navy Cat
Sitting here thinking about my plans for Cat. I think this winter is going to be spent spending a lot of time just being with her. She has trust issues. Not real bad but needs to realize no one is going to hurt her.
She is very soft so will have to be very light handed with her. You can just barely wiggle the lead rope and she will back up. Very light touch.
There is something about this big girl. I'm not sure what it is. Can't really put a finger on it. I can't see her imperfections even when pointed out. Only a few horses in my life have given me this feeling. Don't get me wrong I love all my horses and will do everything for them. But there have been a few that when you look in their eyes there is just....something. Cat has a warm look, one that looks deep into you. I see a very sweet horse that has captured me. The day I met this horse about a month ago I looked at the friend of mine and told her, if you ever get rid of her I have first dibs. I saw that something in Cat that day. I guess things happen for a reason because at the time I was looking at another tb. Belle came home so I decided not to get that tb. Guess it was meant to be Cat.
My Beautiful Girl
Bo and Cat and blankets
Don't know what magic Wes worked yesterday but every time I went out to the boys today he was up my butt. Yup, in my pocket, lovable and no biting. Let me love all over him to. Welcome new Bo. Evil Bo has left the ranch.
I have to update pics. He is so wide. His chest is amazing!!
Cat has her blanket on. She is awful jumpy about that. More so than she should be. Once I got it against her I could get it on her. She is just scared.
Josey is blanketed. The others are not. They have barns and don't really appreciate it anyway. At least not yet. They will get them back on just not yet.
I fixed the big barn where the boys could keep Cat company and the others could come in as well.
Cold front came through during feeding.
Stupid People
Ok so today I went on a site and asked a question. The question was simple, where do you find a horses racing history. Not having had an off the track thoroughbred in my adult life I did not know. Also I have not had anything to do with the racing industry since I was about 15 or 16 years old. I was told of a site and given a link to my horses history.
Enter the BITCH!
So snarky comments started up from this person regarding my mares race results. Ok there was a reason she was retired. She was not fast enough. So what I do not care.
I informed the bitch that I didn't care and that she had been mistreated and abused and in training she was shocked to sprint out of the gates. She got nasty and said that doesn't happen. Lol ok. I asked if she was there for Cats training. No answer, just another snarky bitchy comment.
I informed her she didn't have to be a bitch about it. She said I was lying and sensationalizing my horses history. Well you be the judge.
So this isn't abuse? She had her last race the end of August. No way should she have looked like this in October.
Needless to say I sent the bitch a nice pm regarding her stupidity. I told her to go back to her cesspool industry and to leave me alone.
So much for that site. Don't need that shit.
Cat's Stats
I did some digging and found Cats racing history. It was short but I am glad for that.
Cat was raced in 5 races only. They were all this year. One was in June, two in July and two in August. Her last race was August 26th. She was retired because her best finish was only 5th place. This is fine with me. Since she was only raced 5 times then retraining her should not be hard.
She raced at Fairmont Park in the maiden race.
She loves attention and affection. We have seemed to form a genuine love for each other. I do not care that she didn't make it racing. But history is a good thing to know.

Christmas Present
I got my Christmas present today.
We got a great deal of stuff accomplished today. The little room in the barn where the bumble bees lived is no longer. It is cleaned out, the wall removed and it is now part of the stall which is now a huge foaling stall. Until we have foals though it is going to be Cats stall for bad weather. Her rain rot is almost gone. The barn is cleaned out. Of course all of the horses had to come in and see what we were doing. Pests!!
First of all I was raised with thoroughbred race horses. At a young age I looked older and was able to go to the races, read a racing sheet and place bets. My parents had race horses. Now as a kid I didn't realize how nasty the racing world was. All I knew is that it was something that contained my passion, horses. As an adult I know the dirty secrets of the industry. It's not good! It's cruel and tears horses up all for money. I don't approve and I no longer go to races, watch races or bet on races. Well today I got my Christmas present. Navy Cat is freshly off the track. She is a thoroughbred, 4 years old and she is my first OTTB. She still needs more weight but a friend of mine did a fabulous job of putting weight on her so far. She still has a long way to go. I see potential and lots of it. Certain things make her act as if she is still on the track. Brings back memories. She loads in the trailer beautifully. She doesn't like tight places, reminds her of racing gates. She was mistreated by the racing trainer, taized to sprint out of the gates and who knows what else. She tends to bolt through gates. Today we worked on that. Only once did she bolt. The rest of the time she calmly walked through. Progress! She is sweet and comes to me for rubs hugs and love. I reassure her that no more bad will happen. She is a bit jumpy but time will settle that. Time will cure a lot of things. Her great Grandsire is Secretariat. Lacy also has some thoroughbred racing greats in her pedigree as well. I am very happy that I have the opportunity to have an off the track thoroughbred. It will take some time but we will work to reprogram her mindset. No more racing, no more abuse. And as usual, I have Josey keeping her company tonight.
Oh Diamond has a white spot on her leg!! Wes said it's her diamond. She never had it before.
All of the horses surrounded the round pen to say hi to Cat. She wasn't bothered by it at all. She would not give anyone the time of day. Not even Trick.
Wes worked with Bo today. Bo has a brand new outlook and attitude today. Wes worked with him for about 2 hours today and it worked wonders!! Wes will work with him daily after work. Wes did a great job. He has a way with horses. Bo is his colt and Pistol is mine. I love that I have someone that likes to work with the horses and be involved.
Now I'm sore as hell. In a lot of pain. But all worth it. I feel renewed now that I had horse therapy. It was needed. Gonna be a long winter. It's amazing how a horse day can renew you.
Today was horse day, tomorrow is house day. The weather was to nice today to do anything but play with the horses.

Oh Well
First and foremost, Brutus is eating on his own again. I caught him at the dog good bowl last night chomping away at the dog food. Its good to see him eating on his own. Maybe he just got sick of my force feeding him with the syringe. Yah well then EAT!! He still has a lot of weight to gain back. When he is doing a bit better he will be going in to be neutered. I think it will help a great deal. He is still taking antibiotics and still need recovery time. Whatever happened to his foot made him a very very sick boy. Apparently we have gotten passed that now or at least mostly. The vet said it should be history by today and well it pretty much is. We are just still taking precautions like him living inside for a while and going out to the fenced yard to go to the bathroom instead of him out running with the other dogs. Its just to cold for him to be doing that right now in his condition.
Bo will be going back to Jodi. He isn't bonding with me and just would rather me leave him alone completely. Jodi came over yesterday to see him and see how he did with her and well it was like it use to be when she had him. He gave her kisses and let her lay over his butt and scratch him and such so we talked and neither of us wants to sell him so she is going to take him back. I'd rather see him go back and be happy than to remain with us and be unhappy and cranky and an angry stallion. I will miss him though. But I will either breed to AJ in the spring or maybe get a foal in the summer. We shall see. I really want to breed Belle to AJ.
My ankle is still major league screwed up! I am not sure its ever going to get any better than it is now and if I twist it again I am pretty sure it will be in a cast. It is just not good at all at this point. Probably should have been in a cast to begin with. I am in constant pain with it and if I step just barely wrong it is pain city. Not sure what to do about it at this point.
Everyone's blankets came off a few days ago. Its been getting warmer during the day and everyone seems very happy to have them off. I got two new blankets in the mail yesterday. They were meant for Bo and Pistol but since Bo is leaving I guess I will have an extra 68" blanket. That is ok. Never hurts to have extra. Pistol isn't wearing one right now anyway. He is growing like a weed and so is Bo. I am anxious to see Pistol grow up but then I am sure it will go so fast that I will miss him being a baby. He is such a sweetie. He is very loveable.
This weekend I plan on re-doing part of the barn. I need to take a wall out and clear out the little room so that it will make a bigger stall. Besides I am tired of critters hiding in there and driving Sadie crazy which in turn drives me crazy. She is a coon hound so therefore she like the hunt and barks A LOT. She has already killed one coon in the barn. Not that I am real crazy about that but its not good for the horses to have them in the barn. I do what is best for the horses.
About time to get ready for Thanksgiving. We are having a huge spread and will be doing a lot at the last minute because I just won't have the time this year to spend 2 days preparing. I have a lot to do in the upcoming week. I am sure I will have help though. I just can't believe how well my life has been going in the last 3 years. Never really thought it could be this way. Wes is my rock and my best friend as well as everything else to me. I don't really think I have honestly given my whole heart to anyone but him. I love him madly.
This will be the first Thanksgiving that I will be without Amanda and Anjeleena. It will be my 2nd Christmas without Amanda. I am good with it because I know she is happy and she will get to spend the holidays with her dad. That makes me happy. But I do miss them terribly.
Need to get some Christmas shopping done for Wes. He went through and circled some things. LOL He cracks me up.
Well better get busy. More later.

Updates on, well a lot
I wish I had my camera with me this morning when I went out to feed. It has become painfully clear that Bo is not going to tolerate a blanket of any kind and well Pistol isn't much better. The only difference is that Bo had his hanging off of him and part of it shredded. REALLY???? Pistol was trying to bite it off of him, I am guessing in a effort to help him get out of it. Those two are going to make me nuts. They are feeling their oats that is for sure and for certain. They are like a 3 ring circus in there.
I took off everyone's blankets this morning since its not suppose to be bitter cold today. Well Josey still has her blanket on but that is the norm for her. Everyone was much more cooperative about getting them off than they were in putting them on.
Brutus is doing much better. Still have to force feed him on occasion but he is doing better. He is up and around, choosing to sleep in our bedroom with us at night and now the only thing I wonder about is that one eye has turned cloudy since yesterday. (Shaking head) It is one thing or another with him. He is still on his antibiotics and he is still getting pretty much anything he wants as long as he will eat it on his own without being forced. This morning was left over pork steak with the bone. We gave him some raw hamburger meat for the protein value and the fact that he loved it and WANTED to eat it so by golly it was his.
Maggie is liking this being in the house thing so I don't think having her puppies in the house will be an issue.
Well the hamster that was left to me finally kicked the bucket. Yep Snowball passed away. Found him in his little house all snuggled down in his permanent sleep. He clearly passed away in his sleep. He was at the end of his life span anyway. They just don't live very long.
Everyone else is doing great, fat and sassy. Gotta get busy on some things, more later.

Uphill Battle
Well for the last several days I have been fighting to keep sweet Brutus alive.
I took him to the vet Friday. She put him on antibiotics and gave him a pain shot. We hope that he does not have a degenerative muscle disease. Yesterday was a bad day for him. He slept most of the day and couldn't hardly get up. We now think it was the pain shot. This morning he got up and got on our bed without help. I have been having to force feed him with a syringe and after I did this morning he ate a little biscuits and gravy on his own. I hope this is the beginning of a turn around for him. He is only 7 months old. He is still on antibiotics and living comfortably in the house.
Maggie is pregnant. She is due the beginning of January so my laundry room will be turned into a maternity ward.
She is a good dog and very protective of me. A little spoiled. She will be spayed after the puppies.
Wes worked all night last night. He is now sleeping.

Blanketing complete
Do you have a clue how long it takes to blanket 10 horses?? Holy cow!!
Cumos said no way Jose!! So until the other two blankets get here she won't be forced. Lacey well she is fat like a walrus so again till the other blanket gets here this week she is without as well.
The babies are sporting their blankets. That was fun. Pistol reared up two or three times then discovered it wouldn't eat him. And wow it's a warm thing. Of course Bo kept trying to take it off of him. Suppose to be 16 tonight so that's why the blankets.
Kai is sporting his new zebra blanket. Looks pretty awesome! I got it for rebel however rebel is a fatass and it's a tad to small for him. Cinder is a pro, stood there while we put her blanket on. Diamond handled hers very well. Belle has hers on as well. Sufice to say, everyone but two are covered and by this weekend everyone will have a blanket of their own. It only took a little over an hour to dress everyone. LOL. Wes was a huge help. Josey is still hanging with the babies and she is fine with that and so are they. The zebra blanket is just way to cool. Pics later. It was to dark by the time we finished to take any. As everyone paraded out of the round pen it was like a fashion show.
Finally got Brutus to eat some pork steak tonight. Yes pork steak. He hasn't been feeling good so he has been staying in the house and is getting fed human food right now. Can't find anything wrong with him. He acts sore. Color is good, not dehydrated, no wounds. It's a puzzling thing.
Ty, Maggie and Sadie are sleeping in their very cozy house on the enclosed porch. Yes spoiled.
Well that's out winter update. It's gonna be a long winter.
Thank You

Blankets Tonight
Last night it was to warm to put blankets on and by the time the wind kicked up it was to dark to find your hand in front of your face even though the horses were all up. I couldn't even see them standing right in front of me. Tripped over a couple of them. LOL. They didn't care.
This morning I went out to feed and put Josey in with the colts. She has her blanket on but wanted her to have the barn as well. The boys were oh so happy for her to join them. They were out of their barn playing in the wind and what little dusting of snow we had on the ground. They were not bothered by the cold at all. So I found the rest of the herd WAAAYYY over on the other side of the pasture. Well I guess they aren't bothered either. I was going to blanket them all but apparently since they aren't hanging at the barn they aren't bothered. So I will wait till this afternoon to get blankets on them. I have to get all the blankets out and figure out what goes on who again this year. I still have two more blankets to order and possibly another one. That depends on what I have that will fit Diamond. Diamond never shivered last year and she never wore a blanket and did fine so we will play that one by ear this year. They all have so much fat on them I am sure they are warm enough. Everyone is feeling super good as they have been bucking and rearing and just generally playing and acting like fools. Its a lot of fun to watch them.
This coming weekend is going to be worse than today so they will be sporting their blankets before then. I will probably round everyone up today and get them on. I kind of hate to but then I hate not to as well. Mixed emotions. If the wind were not so bad I wouldn't bother putting them on but its horrible and they won't stay in the barn.
As the age old argument of blanketing continues I will continue to believe that I am doing the right thing by my horses by blanketing them when it is called for. I haven't been wrong yet so I will continue to do what works for us.
Stay warm everyone..........got a nice fire burning in the woodstove as we speak.
We got our tractor and everything moved yesterday. Well I say we and really it was just Wes. There wasn't much I could help with since everything was so heavy it required using the tractor to get it on the trailer. But he got our bale ring moved, our gates, all the implements that go with the tractor, minus two items that disappeared on Saturday night or sometime Sunday. The tiller that goes on the tractor is GONE and so is 2 of the harrows. We have a harrow at home though. Wes is going to ask about the tiller and where it went. Its nice to have the tractor home, will make cleaning out the barn so much easier and brush hogging the pasture so much easier. Now for some nice weather to be able to do this stuff. The barn doesn't need to be cleaned out yet, they haven't been using it much but I'd sure like to brush hog the pasture.
Well time to go get some inside stuff done since its way to cold to do outside stuff.

The Age Old Argument
Learn When to Blanket Your Horse in Winter
Use this handy checklist to decide if your horse needs a blanket.
Knowing when to blanket your horse can help keep him comfortable through inclement weather. | Photo by Darrell Dodds Some horses are happy in all but the most bitter temperatures, while others shiver on the first cold night of fall. To figure out if your horse needs a blanket, answer the following yes-or-no questions. A "yes" answer to any one means your horse would appreciate a little extra insulation.
1. Is it below 50 degrees Fahrenheit? Even if your horse has a natural (unclipped) haircoat, he may appreciate a blanket at this temperature. This is just a general rule of thumb, since other factors (such as wind, humidity and/or precipitation) may call for a blanket when it's warmer. On the other hand, some horses acclimate to colder temperatures, especially those with thick haircoats.
2. Is his coat clipped? If so, your horse may need a blanket (or at least a sheet) when the mercury drops below 60 degrees F.
4. Does he live in an open pasture? A full-time outdoor horse will grow a heavy coat to ward off the elements, but wind and rain can destroy that insulating effect. If there's no shelter in his pasture, he may need wind- and water-resistant horse clothing to stay warm.
5. Is his stall drafty? Drafts in your barn may have the same effect as outside breezes--they blow away that layer of warm air next to your horse's skin, making him feel colder.
6. Is he shivering? Don't go by formulas--check your horse to see whether he's too cold. If he's shivering, blanket him (or add blankets) and get him to a shelter. (To see if your horse is too warm, slide your hand under his blanket; if he's sweaty, he needs a lighter covering, or none at all.)

Another has passed
It is with heavy heart that I just found out that a friend I grew up around, whose family I grew up with, whose aunt taught me the importance of many things, passed away. Leslie aka weezer, you will be missed.
She was found in her home this morning and was already gone. My heart breaks. It also breaks for her family. God Speed Leslie. RIP.
Making Progress.........I guess
Well Wes is off today and tomorrow, provided it doesn't snow that is. So he is over at the old house getting our tractor and implements for it, and our gates, loaded onto a big trailer along with our bale ring. It all has to be done today or the scraper will take it all. (huge story behind that but whatever) This is the final push and after today and possibly tomorrow it will all finally be done. I HOPE. Unfortunately it will take at least two loads to get it all home.
We sat and talked last night about the whole thing. Needless to say we shook our heads a lot. Just don't understand. Well now I can get the pasture mowed, not short just some of the dead stuff off it. To bad its gonna be so darn cold. I hope that it can all be gotten today so that he has tomorrow to relax.
He has almost gotten the cabinets that we got out of the old house done. He made a butcher block top for it for me and he sanded them and stained them to. It looks very good. Can't wait to get it in the house. More cabinet space, more countertop. YAY! He is so handy. Didn't even have to buy anything for it, we had the wood already for the top.
Its been a super busy weekend..................ugh!

Ugh Weekend
Ok so still no veg day but today is as close as it will get.
Yesterday had to go to the old house to get more stuff. We went grocery shopping, bought feed, back home, put everything away, off to the old house.
Today, Wes is at the old house. I stayed home to get stuff done here at home. Now it's kind of slowed down. Got the kitchen cleaned and swept, laundry in process. Heck I do laundry during the week and I swear it's
never all done!!
Gonna chill for a bit. Dinner is cooking and it's quiet.
I did get a surprise phone call from my cousin today. She moved to South Dakota and I had not heard from her. So glad she called. It was great catching up and I told her to get her butt out of there and back down here to civilization. We have an RV hookup and I told her to come on! She can't right now but she wants to. I'd love to see her again.

Full Moon
Gotta say I think the full moon is having an effect on everything and everyone. Boy are they ever coming out!!!!! Holy crap I may be scared. LOL. But in all seriousness, people are acting weird as shit. Gotta be the moon phase. For once the horses are still acting normal.......which is bizarre.
Josey is doing very very well. I should turn her out but think she needs to stay up for a few more days. Might turn her out for a little bit. I have increased her grain because I just think she needs it. Top line is good but not as good as I think it should be.............but then she is 28 years old. She is a fat girl though.
The boys are doing fine. Everyone has been feeling their best and doing some bucking, sparring and general funny antics. To much fun to watch.
Cinder came up this morning on her own so since the others were out to pasture she got a treat. She comes up to see if Josey can come out and play.
Everyone else is out grazing and they seem to be enjoying the chilly weather. I have almost all the blankets replaced that needed to be and the boys are on order. Measured them last night and they are 62" and I am going to get them a little bigger than that so they will last through winter. Last time I measured them they were in the 50's range so they are growing fast.

Ahhh
In my recliner, dinner done, horses fed and Josey's leg checked and doing FABULOUS. She cut her leg on who knows what in the pasture. Nothing out there so have no clue. But it's doing great. No more limping. Swelling and limping were gone after 24 hours.
Babies measured, they say snow next week. Boy they are big!!

Wilted maple leaves are dangerous, and most poisoning cases occur in the autumn.

Q. Two days ago I lost a horse to red maple leaf poisoning, which was a shock because he had been in the same fields on my farm for years. We have been trying for years to identify these maples, but there are a ton of varieties. The department of agriculture told us that poisonous leaves are no danger in fall when they come off the tree but, rather, when they are green and wilted, like after a branch falls. The night before this happened we experienced extremely cold temperatures. There was one tree that was full that night and completely bare by morning. We had no trees down, but autumn leaves were blowing and falling. I can’t get any clear information on the topic and I am nervous to lose my other horses. Exactly when are these leaves lethal?
A. I’m so sorry to hear about your recent loss. How maple leaves affect horses isn’t entirely clear to us. We know that wilted leaves (which can come from downed tree limbs or occur, as you discovered, after a frost) are dangerous, and most poisoning cases occur in the autumn. We also know that it doesn’t take much to poison a horse—less than a pound of dry leaves could be fatal for a pony.

Based on some work that a student did in my laboratory, we know that red maple leaves contain gallic acid. Intestinal bacteria can convert gallic acid from leaves into pyrogallol, which can damage red blood cells and, we believe, could be responsible for the clinical picture of maple poisoning (signs appear within 12-24 hours and include depression, poor appetite, yellow or brown gums and membranes, dark red or brown urine, colic, and fast heart and respiratory rates; abortion, sudden death, and kidney failure might also occur). If this is true, then individual horse factors are important as well: The horse would have to have the right intestinal bacteria to produce the toxic pyrogallol from the leaves. Our work thus far has been done predominantly in test tubes, and we still need blood samples from accidentally poisoned horses to verify that our hypotheses are correct.
While it’s true that most maple poisoning cases have been associated with red maple, I’m not convinced that other types of maple aren’t dangerous. My student analyzed leaves from silver maple and sugar maple, and they too contained gallic acid, but not quite as much as was found in red maple. As sad as it is to remove beautiful trees, I think it would be safest to simply avoid having maple trees of any variety where horses can access them—indeed, last week my family took on two homeless horses, and come spring we will be clearing out a few maples that are just a little too close to the pasture.

More pics of snowy mountains
My daughter moved to the mountains last year. Yesterday it snowed on the mountains. Here are more pics of them today since it cleared off.
Here is a pic of two birds flying above the snow covered trees.
